The same year that Selena featured in “Hannah Montana,” the star became one of the leading cast members on fantasy sitcom “Wizards of Waverly Place.” She portrayed Alex Russo, the feisty and mischievous middle child who trained alongside her siblings to become the family wizard.

The show managed four seasons during its run, as well as a Disney Channel Original Movie and an hour-long special that closed off the series. “Wizards of Waverly Place” was one of Disney’s most successful programs, and it propelled Selena Gomez into the spotlight.

Although Selena dedicated most of her time to appearing on “Wizards of Waverly Place” in the late ‘00s, she did more than just play Alex Russo for those five years. Several years into the role, she bagged one of the leads in Disney Channel Original Movie “Princess Protection Program.”

The movie followed Princess Rosalinda – played by Selena’s BFF Demi Lovato – as she’s forced to go into hiding. Her character is a stark contrast to Selena’s, but as with all feel-good movies, they end up learning a lot from each other.
