Maroney rose to fame after the Olympics, just like her teammates. A photo of her making a specific face became a famous internet meme, which she later recreated.
Maroney suffered several serious injuries in her career, and in 2014, underwent surgery on her knee. She still struggles with stress fractures and fatigue. Maroney has an endorsement deal with Adidas. She retired from elite gymnastics in February, 2016.
