Every now and then, a certain job will require digging deeper into the car brand’s resources than my privately-owned shop has access to. For the customers who have especially complicated issues, it probably makes more sense to take their car to a dealer service department.
The dealership is able to go deeper into that specific brand, and can get special access to the vehicle’s engineers if needed. It just doesn’t make sense for a small shop like mine to shell out $15,000 a year for the data to specialize in just one kind of car.
