A lot of the rules, laws, and regulations surrounding the Royal Family actually stem from centuries ago – when society and culture was a whole lot different from what it is today.
One particular religious rule that has now rightfully been buried is the rule that said no British monarch, who are all Protestants, could marry a Catholic. Thankfully, this was repealed in 2013, and now Royal Family members can marry someone from any religion.
