Dave Bing is the second mayor on this list, serving as Detroit mayor for over four years. Before that, he was the Motor City’s preeminent player for close to a decade, and was the league’s MVP in 1976, after moving to the Washington Bullets. A seven-time All-Star, Bing averaged more than twenty points – on 44 percent shooting – and six assists throughout his stellar career.

He was voted one of the NBA’s 50 greatest players and is a Hall of Fame inductee as well. A Rookie of the Year and league leader in scoring his sophomore season, Bing was simply before his time, acting as an antecedent to Kyrie Irving, Steph Curry and all other scoring PGs. Had he won an NBA title, he would probably be ranked higher.
