But if a base runner is hit by a pitch – and this will most likely only happen when a runner at third base is trying to steal home, because of logistics – then runners advance a base. It’s very rare for this rule to actually come into play – think about it, how many players try to steal home and get hit by a pitch while doing so? It’s very unlikely.
