It wasn’t long before Majors made the big move to Los Angeles and started making his mark on Tinseltown. He enrolled in an acting school, although after just one year of studying, he felt ready to break into the business. The man was 25 when he made his first appearance onscreen, although he admittedly wasn’t credited for it. One year later, he began to land some episode features on shows like the Western drama Gunsmoke and anthology series Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
His part on the former evidently impressed, because Majors soon landed another Western role in the form of The Big Valley. He was chosen over stars like Burt Reynolds for the show, which managed four seasons on ABC. By the time the series ended, a lot of influential people knew who Lee was. That’s how he landed the part that changed his life forever in 1973.
