Former New England running back Tyler Gaffney was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates during the 24th round of the 2012 draft while playing at Stanford. The outfielder/running back spent a season playing for the State College Spikes, a Pirates affiliate, but then returned to Stanford to play football. He was eventually drafted in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL draft, by the Carolina Panthers, but was injured and was waved. Since, he was picked up and waived again by the Patriots and was eventually released.
