While Ryan had appeared in all sorts throughout the ‘80s, she finally found her niche in ‘89 when she was cast in the rom-com “When Harry Met Sally…”

The film saw the actress star alongside established comedian Billy Crystal in a role that would soon define the rest of her career. “When Harry Met Sally…” grossed $92 million at the box office and is now rated by many as one of the funniest films in history. For her part as Sally, Meg was nominated for a Golden Globe Award.

Anyone who had previously been unfamiliar with Meg Ryan soon knew who the actress was. Producers wanted to snap her up for their films, although this worked to varying levels of success.

Ryan’s feature on the romantic fantasy flick “Prelude to a Kiss” was a flop, while her appearance in the biographical movie “The Doors” didn’t fare much better. However, the actress’ luck turned around when she starred in “Sleepless in Seattle.” Another rom-com that Ryan excelled in, the film proved that she was at her best when in this genre.
