Meg Ryan's journey through Hollywood

Meg’s career as a rom-com star was getting stronger by the year, and she probably had her personal life to thank for it. Between her hugely successful appearances in “When Harry Met Sally…” and “Sleepless in Seattle,” the actress married former co-star Dennis Quaid.

She’d met the man while filming sci-fi comedy film “Innerspace,” although it wasn’t until they appeared together again in “D.O.A.” the following year that the pair fell in love. It was Ryan’s first time tying the knot, but Quaid’s second.

Although the success of “When Harry Met Sally…” and “Sleepless in Seattle” had proven that Ryan’s talents rested in rom-com, the actress was hesitant to restrict herself to one genre.

While she wasn’t interested in the gruesome horror of “Silence of the Lambs,” she was tempted by the social drama film “When a Man Loves a Woman.” Moving away from rom-coms was risky, but it paid off when both the film and Meg’s performance were praised. The success earned her a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination, her only one to date.
