Due to not really having any type of formal schooling (for example, attending 11 schools in nine years, being absent 51 out of 180 school days at previous schools, etc), Oher needed help just learning how to learn. Therefore, the Tuohy family paid a private tutor to work the Michael up to 20 hours a week. His coaches also helped immensely, providing him with good equipment and the support he needed to succeed on the field.
