Despite her success as Cindy Walton, Leslie Winston did not pursue acting for long after the show ended. She appeared in the Waltons TV movies, and made appearances on shows such as LA Law and Quincy, M.E., but a broken elbow left her unable to act for a year.

This, coupled with her desire to spend more time with her children, led to her decision in 1993 to retire as an actress. She did not completely leave the industry behind, however, becoming a sound mixer for TV shows.
