Some may argue that Jerry West wasn’t a true point guard, that he was a PG/SG, but if that’s good enough for Basketball Reference to classify him as a PG, then it’s good enough for us. West was “obsessed” with perfection, as per his NBA.com bio, had a deadly jump shot and was a unshakable defender.
The 14-time All-Star, 12-time All-NBA selection and five-time All-Defensive selection helped lead the Lakers to the 1971-72 championship and was named Finals MVP in 1968-69 – averaging 37.9 PPG, 4.7 rebounds and 7.4 assists – but Boston won the championship.
