Despite the fact that Raj struggles to speak to women, he does manage to impress Lucy through his shy and awkward ways. As a socially anxious person, Lucy immediately forms a bond with Raj and the couple date for a while.
However, as Raj becomes more and more confident, it all becomes too much for Lucy. She can’t deal with the social interaction, and she can’t keep up with his newfound personality. She ultimately ends things via text, breaking Raj’s heart in the process. We always hoped they would get back together.
