Known as “The Jet” for his glazing speed from the fullback position, Perry would go on to have a great career at the pro level. From a historical standpoint, his most important accomplishment was becoming the first ever African American player to win the NFL’s MVP award in 1954. He was also the first player overall to ever rush for at least 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons (1953 and 1954). Perry was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1969.
