Back when running backs were much more revered assets, Campbell was selected with the number one overall pick in the 1978 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers. He definitely rewarded them for taking him, as he was named Offensive Player of the year in each of his first three seasons in the league. In his second year, he ran for 1,697 yards and 19 touchdowns, earning himself the NFL’s MVP Award. He actually eclipsed his rushing total the following year, gaining 1,934 yards on the ground.
