The Tigers first baseman signed an eight-year, $248 million extension with the team that is due to last through the 2023 season. Cabrera, who is already 34 years old, has seen his numbers drop this season after eight consecutive seasons of batting above .300. When the extension was signed, Cabrera said he wants to spend the rest of his career in Detroit. But now, some trade rumors have been floated, including the possibility that he could be sent to the Red Sox. Either way, he’s owed at least $30 million every season through 2023.
