It turns out that the highest-paid soccer contracts aren’t in Europe, they are out in the East. At the end of 2016, Carlos Tevez signed an insane two-year contract with the Shanghai Shenhua, a Chinese Super League team. According to reports, Tevez is earning 615,000 pounds a week, or $805,000, making him the top-paid athlete in the sport. Such a weekly salary would put his annual salary at $41.8 million. Not bad for someone who had recently returned to play in Argentina after a few spells in Europe.
