Spelling Bee may well have been the original TV game show, but it wasn’t exactly popular! In fact, many viewers complained that the show was dull, and it only managed to last about four episodes.
In spite of the hype, BBC viewers were left disappointed by the show, and one critic said, “One of the only good things about the start of World War II was that it took Spelling Bee off the air!” This is more than a little harsh but shows how underwhelmed people were by the program.
