Bergkamp has returned home to his native Holland, where he was a part of the coaching set-up at Ajax. Firstly he was the assistant coach before taking a step back and focusing more on training youth players. Bergkamp had a great career but has developed a phobia thanks to his experiences playing the game. He has been afraid of flying since 1994 when the engine of a plane cut out while he and his teammates were in the air, since then he drives to all away games.
