The joy Ryan got from appearing on screen convinced her that acting was the way to go. She knew it was a big risk, but it was one she was willing to take. So, she left college before graduating and threw herself straight into auditions.

Naturally, the first roles she bagged were small ones, such as a feature in the sitcom “Charles in Charge” and the comedy film “Armed and Dangerous.” Other roles included the drama “Promised Land,” for which she earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination, and supernatural horror “Amityville 3-D.”

In the early days of Meg’s career, she wasn’t picky about the roles she played. Ryan was more interested in getting her face and name out there as opposed to honing her craft.

She featured in whatever she could get her hands on, from action films like “Top Gun” to thrillers like “D.O.A.” The broader she was with her tastes, the more she appealed to a wider audience. By the late ‘80s, more significant parts were coming her way, and her career was definitely on the up.
