Weird as it is to think about, Thomas might actually have been lucky his horrible tenants had left on their own, even if they never bothered to tell him that they had!
In France, as well as in most other Western countries including the U.S., evicting tenants is becoming a more and more difficult – and costly – process. They’re protected by multiple laws, some of which average landlords may not even be aware of, and the whole thing is extremely time-consuming. Thomas, then, may not realize how lucky he was.
