Bettis earned the nickname “The Bus” for his rugged running style, running over opposing defenders. His punishing runs led defenders to be wary when trying to tackle him head on. After initially being selected by the Los Angeles Rams in 1993, he went on to rush for 1,429 yards and seven touchdowns on his way to Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. Bettis was a part of a trade during the 1996 draft, which sent him to Pittsburgh. In his first two seasons with the Steelers, Bettis rushed for 1,431 and 1,665, respectively.
