Back in 1991, Alexei Kovalev became the first Russian player to be drafted in the first round, and 15th overall. Kovale began his career with the New York Rangers, where he won the Cup in 1994, scored 116 goals overall and added 152 assists in 388 games. The right winger starred for five different teams throughout his career: New York, Pittsburgh, Montreal, Ottawa and Florida. He retired with 430 goals, 599 assists and 1029 points. He retired from hockey in 2013, but quickly came back and played for a Swiss NLB team.
