Chimanuka had shown that he was capable of being a caring father. While silverbacks have been known to show a caring side, Chimanuka was going beyond what experts believe was possible.

After discovering a baby gorilla left orphaned due to its mother’s passing, Chimanuka took the young ape under his wing. Not only did Chimanuka give the baby gorilla a home, he began caring for it just like its mother would have done. If there was a Nobel Peace Prize for gorillas, Chimanuka might be the leading candidate for it.
