The main goal of Buchanan’s trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo was to learn more about mountain gorillas, and more specifically, silverbacks.
Silverback gorillas are the males of the group and are the largest members of any jungle family. They can grow to 430 pounds and have been measured at 5 ft 11 in tall before. They are incredibly powerful animals and any interaction with them is dangerous for humans as they risk being chased down if the gorilla feels threatened.
