Thanks to studying and following Chimanuka over the previous days and weeks, Buchanan knew how likely the silverback was to attack him and decided he was safe where he was.

Male gorillas looking after young isn’t something unique to Chimanuka, but this was the first time a Bauer’s gorilla (which Chimanuka is) had been recorded doing so. Buchanan really was studying one of the most special gorillas in the world, but that was just the beginning. The reason behind Chimanuka stepping into traffic is truly spectacular.
