Interesting facts about Santa Claus most people don’t know



Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, there’s a a good chance you’ve heard of ol’ Saint Nick – also known as Santa Claus. Santa has become a fascination for people everywhere and a worldwide phenomenon. He is believed to be a jolly old man with long, curly white hair, a beard, and a red suit. This man is known for loving cookies and milk, not to mention the fact that he allegedly travels all over the world in his reindeer-operated sleigh on Christmas Eve to give children presents.
While this is the Santa most of us know and love, there is actually quite a bit that most people don’t know about him. Things like his origins, who his imaginary character was named after, how people in other countries think of him, and so much more. While we don’t want to ruin any mystery regarding Saint Nick, we’ve got some pretty interesting facts about him that you may not have known before. Christmas may be over, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still be merry.

During the time of the Roman Empire, there was a Greek Bishop in the area of what is now Turkey. This man was known as Saint Nicholas and is believed to be the one who Santa Claus is based off of.

Though very little is known about Nicholas, he had a secret gift-giving habit that is thought to be where this idea came from with the modern day Saint Nick. One thing is for certain, though: he probably did not look like the big-bellied, rosy-cheeked character based off of him.
