This has origins from back in biblical times when the Wise Men gave Jesus gifts. So why does Santa bring us gifts? Well, as we know, he is based off Saint Nicholas, who was known as a gift giver.

The bishop would travel around giving gifts and doing deeds for those in need and this is part of what earned him his status as a saint. As stories and legends were passed down, so was the idea of a gift giver traveling around and leaving presents, specifically for children.
