Though Saint Nicholas is thought to have lived and died in what is now modern day Turkey, that is not where his remains are kept. They were kept in a sarcophagus at a special church built in his name, but looters ended up taking them.

When the Byzantine Empire temporarily lost power in that area, merchants stole the main parts of his skeleton and took them back to Italy. Later, sailors brought the rest of his remains to Italy during the First Crusade.
