[post_page_title]The modern name has Dutch origins[/post_page_title]
So where does the name Santa Claus come from? While it took much longer for the modern day jolly fellow to come into play, it is believed that his name is derived from the Dutch name Sinterklaas, which was taken from – you guessed it – Saint Nicholas! When the Dutch were migrating to America, they brought with them their version of Santa Claus.
Then, the Americans did what they do best and morphed the name into their own version of it – therefore Santa Claus was born. At the time, the man was called Kris Kringle, but it wasn’t until the settles began sharing their stories of Sinterklaas that he became Santa.
