Lloyd Waner’s rookie season numbers are astounding. The centerfielder hit .355/.396/.410 with a .806 OPS. As the leadoff hitter, Waner drove in only 27 runs in 1927, but more than made up for it with 223 hits and 133 runs scored of his own (the most in the NL). That season, Waner struck out only 23 times, which is also the highest number of strike outs he tallied in a single season (in 1930 he struck out only five times).
