While coaching, Lorenzen still had the burning desire to play. In 2011 he was hired as the general manager of the Northern Kentucky River Monsters, in the Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL).

It was hard to be around football each day without having the satisfaction of stepping on the field, so at the age of 30 Lorenzen came out of retirement. Indoor football might have suited Lorenzen better; the pitches were smaller, and there were fewer players on each team.
