Oher had been granted his place at the University of Mississippi, and was ready to begin the career in football that he had been dreaming of for years. However, the NCAA opened an investigation into his choice, believing he had been coerced into choosing Mississippi.
The reason for the NCAA’s suspicion was that Hugh Freeze, the football coach at Briarcrest, had been hired by UoM weeks after Oher made his decision – and they worried that he had pressured Michael into making that choice to improve his job prospects.
