Oher had only played three games in the season before being put on reserve, but he was confident that he would be able to make a strong comeback. Unfortunately, that comeback never materialized.
In July of 2017, Oher underwent a physical to see if he was back in good enough condition to start playing for the Panthers. After this physical, the Panthers announced that they would be releasing Oher, as he was still not in the proper health to be able to play.
