Parton later opened up about the reported cheating scandal saying, “I couldn’t wait to jump into bed with Burt Reynolds,” adding, “In the movie, not in real life.” Unfortunately, the rumors started to affect her and her husband’s otherwise quiet life together.
Parton and Dean would often be out walking in the grocery store together only to be greeted by a sea of reporters charging questions at them about Parton’s ‘affair’ with Reynolds. Luckily, Dean chose to believe his wife, who said that she and the co-star were like “brother and sister” and laughed off the rumors.
