On May 28th, 2014, Athena finally lost her battle with cancer. She’d been fighting her illness for nearly half a year, but her efforts to beat it had all been in vain. The only saving grace was that the teenager had been in her own bed with her family around her when she’d passed away.
Knowing that she was as happy and comfortable as possible when it happened gave the Orchards the peace of mind they needed, although it didn’t help them get over their tragic loss.
