After saying he was going to take a sabbatical in 2002, Mika Hakkinen decided he was going to fully retire instead. Rumours circulated in 2004 that he might be back to race for Williams, but nothing ever came of it. Instead, Hakkinen started racing in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, which he would continue to do until 2007. He is now a partner ambassador for McLaren and Johnnie Walker, alongside working in driver management.
