Nelson Piquet was up against it from the start. His father didn’t want him to be a racing driver, saying he should become a tennis player instead. This young wannabe champion was determined to get on that racing track and so hid his identity using his mother’s maiden name. His Formula One debut came in 1978, after winning a record number of races in Formula Three. He went on to win three F1 World Championships throughout the 1980s.
