Parton and Dean first crossed paths in 1964, in front of a local laundromat in Nashville, Tennessee. She was just 18 years old and he was 21, and it was the future star’s very first day in the city of music, as she had just relocated from her small native town of Sevierville in order to pursue her dreams of becoming a country singer. According to the couple, it was love at first sight.

“My first thought was I’m gonna marry that girl,” Dean said during their 50th anniversary vow renewal ceremony. “My second thought was, ‘Lord she’s good looking.’ And that was the day my life began.” Shortly after meeting, Dean took his future wife out for dinner. “He pulled up to the drive-in window and got our food at McDonald’s,” Parton recalled of their first date.
