Two years after meeting, on May 30, 1966 the two lovebirds got hitched at a small church in Ringgold, Georgia. At the time, the singer’s career was just starting to take off and her debut single, “Dumb Blonde” was topping music charts. The country star later revealed that her record label, Monument, asked her to take some time to think about the marriage to which Parton sternly replied, “I ain’t waiting!”
Instead, the label insisted that she and Dean elope fearing that if fans knew about the marriage that it might get in the way of her career. However, Parton was not for a courthouse wedding so she and her fiancé hopped over to a tiny Baptist church and asked the pastor to marry them with their only guest being her mother, Avie Lee.
