More than 400 people arrived to honor Athena on her final journey – so many, in fact, that not everyone could fit inside the chapel in which the funeral was held. And not all of them knew her personally, as by that point her story had spread not just in the country but internationally as well.

Some did know her, however, and were forever broken by her passing. “It’s heartbreaking,” explained a school friend, “because every day you wish she could be back here with us.”
