Filming of Gone with the Wind started with a hugely expensive scene. ‘The burning of Atlanta’ was the very first scene to be shot and, with a cost of $25,000, it was a big start to the production process.
A blaze was set alight in the studio, and it engulfed a huge section which worried nearby residents. The blaze had grown so large that the fire department was called and it was reported that it took close to 15,000 gallons of water to put it out.
