We’ve already had several blown calls on this list, in which an umpire calls a runner safe when he’s obviously out. Well on a night in early May, 2012, Tim Welke did the opposite. Jerry Hairston Jr. beat the throw to first, but was called out by first base umpire Tim Welke. Welke would later apologize to Hairston, and Hairston joked that if his career ends with 2,999 hits, Welke will be hearing from him.
