Derby county made a mistake similar to Birmingham FC: they pissed off Gypsies. As the story goes, in 1895 Derby County made a group of Romani Gypsies move to build their stadium, just like Birmingham (you’d think Birmingham may have learned a lesson from Derby County). The Gypsies cursed Derby, saying they would never win the FA Cup. The club made it to three FA cup finals between the year the curse was placed and 1903, but never won. In 1946s, after several decades of losing, a team rep went to the clan and asked them to lift the curse. Legend has it the ball actually burst on the field, and derby finally won. The moral of the story: don’t make anyone move and don’t anger the gypsies.
