Being on the front cover of Sports Illustrated is supposed to be a huge honor, but it may also be something many athletes are nervous about. Throughout the decades, many athletes who were featured on the magazine’s front cover then suffered some ill fate. The first athlete to be on the over, Eddie Mathews, broke his hand shortly after. Jill Kinmont was on the cover in 1955, and the same week she was in an accident that ended in paralysis. There are so many instances that Wikipedia has a page just listing the players who were on the cover and what happened to them next.
