This curse goes back to the days when the Cardinals played in Chicago (it seems as if all curses date back to Chicago…). In 1925, the Cardinals lost to the Pottsville Maroons in the championship game. But the Maroons had their title taken away by the commissioner because they played an unauthorized exhibition game, and the championship was given to the Cardinals. As the legend goes, Maroons fans were so angry by the controversy that they put a curse on the Cardinals, which will only be lifted when the championship was returned to the right team. Since, the Cardinals have moved from Chicago to St. Louis and then to Arizona, yet they still carry the curse with them.
