In 2012, the Indians’ Santana was making his way to second base when the Reds Joey Votto scooped up a ground ball and tossed it to Zach Cozart who was covering second. Santana, realizing he wasn’t going to make it in time, didn’t even attempt to slide into second. Enter Jim Wolf, the second base umpire. Wolf ruled Santana safe at second even though he was several feet off the bag. The Reds could argue all they wanted, and they did, but this decision wasn’t being reversed.
