Traditionally in soccer, a player who receives two yellow cards is also sent off the field. But in 2006, it took three to get Croatia’s Josip Simunic. British referee Graham Poll showed Simunic his second yellow card at the 90th minute, but failed to send him off. He only showed him a red card three minutes later after the final whistle had been blown, booking him for dissent. Overall this wasn’t a great game for the British ref, who made several questionable errors.
