Longtime pitcher Tim Wakefield played until he was 45 years old. Wakefield spent 17 seasons in the majors, most of them with the Boston Red Sox. During the 2007 season, when Wakefield had just turned 40, he started 31 games, had 17-12 record and 4.76 ERA. He played his final game on September 25, 2011, just after his 45th birthday. The right-handed pitcher was part of the 2004 Red Sox team that won the World Series for the first time in 86 years.
